About Julian Hayes
Hello, my name is Julian Hayes, I provide psychological assistance and support for those experiencing psychological distress such as anxiety, depression, trauma, addictions and relationship difficulties. I work with people of all ages, genders and sexualities. The work I engage in is based on the premise that we may all experience psychological difficulties at times in our lives and sometimes seek assistance of a health care professional. The philosophy I adopt with all the people I see is respect, dignity and a compassionate mind towards whatever personal information you choose to share.
I am an BACP accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist.
A CBT and EMDR trauma focussed therapist, registered with the EMDR association UK and Ireland. I have a vast range of experience working within the NHS, private, voluntary and charitable sectors of psychological provision. I have provided training and therapy for trainee therapists at differing stages in their careers. I offer the space, time and clinical expertise to help you and you partners or family make sense of yours or their experience, whilst assisting you to move forward and change your thoughts, feelings and behaviours if so required.
Specialisms
- Trauma is an area I specialise in because it presents in many areas of our lives, not just experiences such as the military, rape crisis, abuse, domestic violence and bereavement. It also exists in areas such as relationship difficulties, bullying, eating disorders and accidents of all varieties. I have provided psychotherapy with those who have experienced trauma in relation to the Grenfell tower fire in London, the Manchester Arena bombing and the impact of war from both a civilian and military aspect in conflicts such as Afghanistan, Bosnia and Iraq. The effects of trauma can present many years after the trauma itself, this aspect can add an additional difficulty in enabling individuals to make sense of their current experience.
- I incorporate the use of psychometric screening tools such as the PHQ9, GAD7 and the TSQ to assess peoples’ symptoms of, depression, anxiety, trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder and its symptoms. All of these are to facilitate a position of post traumatic growth.
My training, work experience and any achievement
I have a BA (Hons) Degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy with further Diplomas in CBT, NLP & Comp. I have extensive experience of working with a variety of client groups and organisations. In 2004 I trained at the Royal Collage for the Blind in Hereford as a complementary therapist, working with the blind and partially sighted. In 2005 I began to work in the private sector with special needs adults and young people with drug addiction. In 2006 I was recruited into the NHS mental health services where I provided therapeutic interventions in acute and psychiatric intensive care mental health hospitals and recovery units. This experience has provided me with insight into working with complex mental health issues with a vast range of individuals from various social, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
Alongside this work, in 2010 I began working as a counsellor and psychotherapist within the education system and the field of drug and
alcohol addictions. I have continued to train extensively in the areas of trauma, post traumatic stress disorder and EMDR (Eye movement De-sensitisation Reprocessing) and further training in CBT, sexual addictions and compulsions and relationship difficulties.
More recently I was managing a Psychotherapy service for the charity Help for Heroes working with veterans, military personnel and interpreters in relation to a variety of conflicts such as Afghanistan, Iraq, Bosnia and the Falklands and up until March 2018 I have provided trauma focused EMDR with those affected by the Grenfell fire.
